Places I Remember is a series of abstract landscapes inspired by my memories of buildings I lived in or spent a significant time in. Each painting is accompanied by a short poem. In this series, I’ve incorporated hand drawn patterns and impasto techniques using casein paint with layer upon layer of watercolor and gouache paints for a unique texture in the finished piece.
This place is my grandparents house where I spent countless hours watching Nick at Nite and eating bowl after bowl of peppermint ice cream. The house was at the top of a large hill at the end of a long driveway, and had the most fantastic sunsets. I have an oil painting in my bedroom of my Aunt Birdie’s take on the sunset and it is almost as good as sitting at the breakfast bar and looking out the window of the house.
